Embark on an enriching 4-day journey that offers a perfect fusion of Rwanda’s vibrant culture and breathtaking nature. From the lively city streets of Kigali to the awe-inspiring Volcanoes National Park and the serene shores of Lake Kivu, this tour promises a delightful mix of exploration, wildlife encounters, and relaxation.
Begin your adventure with a flavorful breakfast, followed by a unique walking tour through Kigali, the heartbeat of Rwanda. Immerse yourself in the charm of Nyamirambo, Kigali’s oldest district, where rich traditions and colorful cultures come alive. Stroll through bustling markets, visit a lively local hair salon, and explore the Arab-influenced Muslim quarter, all while being guided by a passionate member of the Nyamirambo Women's Center, a community-driven initiative. Enjoy a delightful traditional lunch with your Rwandan hosts. In the afternoon, we leave the vibrancy of the city behind and head toward the majestic Volcanoes National Park, a stunning haven for wildlife and natural beauty.
Set out early for the highlight of your journey: gorilla tracking in Volcanoes National Park. After a hearty breakfast, drive to the park headquarters for a briefing, then venture into the lush landscapes of the Virunga Volcanoes in search of the endangered mountain gorillas. As you trek through the green hills, your guide will lead you to the gorillas' habitat where you’ll have the rare privilege of spending one unforgettable hour with these majestic creatures. Capture stunning photos, observe their fascinating behaviors, and learn about their conservation. After your exhilarating encounter, return to your lodge and unwind, before exploring the picturesque twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo, framed by the dramatic backdrop of the Muhabura Volcano.
With the excitement of gorilla tracking fresh in your mind, it’s time to head to the tranquil shores of Lake Kivu for some well-deserved relaxation. Along the way, visit the Imbabazi Centre, a touching sanctuary that has provided love and safety to over 400 orphaned children. Founded by Roz Carr, the center offers much more than shelter; it’s a place of hope, with a nursery school, farm, and beautiful gardens. Learn about Roz’s remarkable friendship with Dian Fossey, and enjoy a traditional dance performance during lunch. We then proceed to Gisenyi, where you’ll check in at a lakeside lodge with breathtaking views. Spend the evening by the lake, enjoying local delicacies like freshly grilled fish or savory goat skewers as you watch the sunset over the water.
After a leisurely breakfast, embark on a final wildlife adventure—golden monkey tracking. These lively, colorful primates provide a delightful contrast to the gorillas, offering another unforgettable experience in Volcanoes National Park. Once your golden monkey adventure concludes, we begin our return journey to Kigali. In the city, visit the Genocide Against the Tutsi Memorial Centre, a powerful and moving tribute to Rwanda’s resilience, or explore the Natural History Museum housed in Kandt House, where you can learn about Richard Kandt’s search for the source of the Nile. Later, you’ll be dropped off at Kigali International Airport, reflecting on the rich history, culture, and natural beauty you’ve experienced during your extraordinary Rwandan journey.
